A useful AI estimate gives you organised working to challenge: the scope, quantities, cost components and questions that would otherwise be scattered across the project pack. That can make the first review easier to start. The final price still needs to reflect how your business buys and delivers the work.
Start with a project you understand
Choose a familiar extension, refurbishment or conversion with drawings, specification and an estimate you can inspect. Comparing the same pack is more useful than asking whether an unfamiliar total “looks about right”. Record the revisions, inclusions, tax and allowances in both versions before looking at the difference.

Where your judgement adds value
Your rates, supplier relationships, access knowledge, subcontract quotations and programme are the commercial context. A restricted rear path may not be visible in the drawings. An occupied room may change protection and labour. Add those facts to the pack and check their treatment in the estimate.
Where the pricing basis is unclear, resolve it through an enquiry, a defined allowance or a clear assumption. Do not accept a product match merely because the description sounds similar. Keep a record of what you changed and why.
Decide whether the test helped
Measure the time to useful reviewed working, not just the time until generation finishes. Note what was easier to assemble, which important corrections you made, and whether the client pack communicated the approved scope.
A successful first test gives you a repeatable method for your next suitable project. If a package remains difficult to interpret, use that specific line and its source when asking for help. That produces better feedback than an unexplained complaint about the headline total.
