The starting point
For Alex McKenna and his business partner Ross at Maplewood Construction Ltd, an estimate needs to stand up to practical experience. With extensions, renovations and other building work to price, they wanted to see how Quotify’s figures compared with their own.
They began with an extension they had already priced. Existing drawings and a familiar job gave the team something concrete to compare against: their own estimate and their knowledge of the work.
How Quotify was used
Alex and Ross worked through Quotify during an initial walkthrough, then reviewed the output against their own figures. In a follow-up on 9 September, Alex described the pricing as broadly in line with the team’s estimates.
By 17 September, he had a specific example of why that extra check was useful. Alex said one estimate had shown that Maplewood was around £4,000 light on its own price.
That gave the team a concrete difference to investigate. The value was in having both a total to compare and the detail underneath it: labour, materials and individual prices they could review.
“The breakdown’s brilliant. The breakdown’s excellent.”

Why Alex plans to keep using Quotify
Alex’s praise was specific. He singled out the labour and materials breakdown and said the selected prices the team checked were in the right region. Quotify gave them an estimate they could examine alongside their own experience.
He had also changed details and colours in the quote himself. After some help getting started, he found the app straightforward: “I found that quite easy enough to use after I spoke to you.”
Asked whether he would use Quotify going forward, Alex answered: “Oh yeah, definitely. It’s going to be getting used.” For larger jobs, he expected to use it at least five times a month, with extensions, renovations and garden rooms among the work he discussed.
He was already considering the next comparison: putting a window-and-door quote through Quotify and checking it against Ross’s specialist experience. Near the end of the call, he returned to the point: “I’ll definitely be using it.”
Those are practical reasons to come back: another check on the price, a breakdown the team can inspect, and a quoting workflow Alex can use and adjust. Quotify gives Maplewood more to work with when deciding what to charge.

What Alex’s figures describe
The £4,000 figure is Alex’s assessment of one quote comparison with Maplewood’s own price. It is a reported pricing gap, rather than a measured saving or a comparison with final construction costs.
At least five uses a month is the level Alex expected for larger jobs at the time of the call. It describes his plan for future use.
What another builder can take from it
Start as Maplewood did: bring a job you have already priced. Compare the total, work through the labour and materials, and investigate any differences using your own knowledge of the project.
A useful estimate gives you something to question, check and improve before you commit to a price. That is the role Alex sees for Quotify on Maplewood’s next larger jobs. Your first complete project is free.
